Our Backpack Ministry
Hillcrest’s Backpack Ministry has been around for a few years and has grown from serving two school age students to 34 today in local public schools in our area. This ministry provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a child over the weekend who otherwise would not have food. The names of the families and children remain anonymous to us. We simply receive information from a school counselor. The above pictures show most of the foods that we send out. Mr. Jerry Edwards has been instrumental in organizing, planning, securing volunteers, and building relationships with our community at large ranging from the counselors in the schools to other people and churches who participate in making this ministry effective and reflective of Jesus’ words: “… whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me (Matthew 25:40).” If you would like more information, call Hillcrest at (804) 730-1500.
Other ministries in which participate currently are as follows: Firewood Ministry and the Christmas Box Ministry. We minister alongside other churches in fulfilling the work of these ministries.
